World Mental Health Day - Communities Can be Crucial in Helping to Restore Mental Health

The drastic cuts in social care have made it an extremely hard year for those that provide mental health services. When budgets are reduced the role that the community plays in helping to support those vulnerable people becomes even more important.

As we celebrate World Mental Health Day today it is so amazing to see how communities all over the country come together to help provide support solutions for those with mental health problems to help them get back on their feet which not only benefits the person but also benefits the community.

The Sudley Collection story originated from an article which had been published in the local newspaper about a man in Bognor who took the decision to rent a massive warehouse from where he could take unwanted household items and convert them into sellable products. This sounds like a highly original business idea, however what makes this idea different is the fact that he wanted the business to benefit not only himself but also the local community and for it to be run on a purely not-profit basis.

This publication was discovered by one of the senior support workers from United Response's Mental Health Outreach team, who along with his fellow employees decided to visit the site and come up with an idea to set up a furniture restoration business, which would be ran by people who had mental health needs. Richard Campbell was so pleased with the idea that he decided to offer them a rent-free space in the warehouse and items of furniture to start restoring.

The main thing that came out of that idea was the launch of the Sudley Collection which is a non-profit, furniture restoration business where people with mental health skills can acquire brand new skills in furniture restoration as well as putting together a fantastic selection of restored furniture. The furniture is then sold for a low price to vulnerable members of the community that may need those items. Any profits generated from the sale of these items would be reinvested into the project.

This project is just one of the examples of how local communities can work together to make a difference to the daily lives of vulnerable people. It is important to note that the project is not just about giving support to those with mental health problems but also about providing opportunities for people to make a real difference in their communities.

The statistics show that 25% of people are likely to have a mental health need at some point in their life; mental health is a community problem. We just to need to hope that more projects are setup to help tackle this growing problem.

Why Most Meditations Don't Work for Depression?

Meditation is a common term though few understand how to achieve real depth in the practice. Most meditations are taught as a form of relaxation hypnosis or meditating by listening to alpha brainwave-inducing sounds. Hypnosis or relaxation meditation is helpful to calm the nervous system and can be helpful when used often over time, but few practices show how to train the mind at will to re-create those pleasant or tranquil feelings using only your choice.

Remembering a time when you felt happy or loving, peaceful; such as holding a small child or pet, can help bring up a warm glowing feeling in the center of your chest. Smiling, both externally and internally can also bring up this feeling of love. Some meditations practice using a mantra such as "may I be peaceful," "may I feel love", or the feeling of the breath in the body, but the key element that few meditations share is that the pleasant feeling is the most important part of the beginning of the meditation. The thought, mantra or external meditation object will not bring you joy or change your brain chemistry. A pleasant feeling is imperative.

The second problem with other, even deeper meditations is they teach maintaining an absolute focus on that object of meditation, by shutting out all other feelings and thoughts by sheer will. This practice will only cause hardness of the mind and the inability to deal with situations that come up in daily life. Mindfulness meditation is simply about noticing another feeling, sensation or thought that arise in your body and mind, and then relaxing both the body and the tension in your mind, and returning to the pleasant feeling. Nature abhors a vacuum. Once you let go of the thought or other feeling by relaxing the mind and body, you need to bring up that pleasant feeling to fill the void. But true healing meditation is about mental awareness; meditation is not only creating a constant pleasant feeling, but building the ability to perceive when the mind moves away from what you intend to focus on (a pleasant feeling), and to relax and come back to the feeling more and more often.

This gives the meditator control over his or her mind, re-creating pleasant feelings and giving the meditator the ability at will to use his or her mind, instead of being occupied by more detrimental thoughts and feelings.

Understanding Depression

Depression is a disease which affects individuals and families all over the world in terrible ways - sometimes, tragically, to the extent where sufferers are lost to suicide. This disorder is one which is still not understood well by the general public, although the medical community has developed a much better understanding of what it is, what causes it and how best to treat it in recent years.

It's important to understand that first and foremost depression is a real disorder, not simply someone being 'down in the dumps.' It is this misconception that sufferers can simply 'get over it' that causes many sufferers to avoid seeking the treatment they desperately need. This is a misconception that needs to be corrected - and thankfully, more people are beginning to be more open-minded about it and more understanding of what its sufferers have to go through.

What many people also don't realise is that there are different types of depression. The disorder we typically associate with the word depression is what is clinically known as 'major depression.' This is distinguished from bipolar depression. Major depression is characterised by consistently low moods, whereas bipolar typically involves rapid changes between low moods and episodes of high-intensity, frenetic behavior. Bipolar depression is also known as manic, because of this flux between depressed and manic states.

So how do you recognise this disorder? It's important to know the signs and symptoms so you can pick up on it not only in others, but in yourself (many people suffering this don't actually consider that they have the disorder. This is partly because some symptoms don't fit with the widespread misconceptions about the disorder.)

In order for a diagnosis of major depression to be made, the low moods need to have been occurring consistently for a long period of time - generally longer than 6 months before medications will be prescribed. It can be triggered by a difficult life event, although often there are other underlying causes which build up to a person becoming depressed.

Aside from the typical 'blue mood,' other symptoms include consistent feelings of hopelessness, loss of self esteem and a feeling that life is pointless. Changes in appetite are common, and sufferers also often find they lose interest in all activities - even activities which they previously enjoyed a great deal. Sleeping problems and a reduction in sex drive are other common indicators to keep an eye out for.

John Lennon in The Collective Consciousness Being Real

Lennon - in the Collective Consciousness - Being Real.

I started looking up John Lennon quotes on Goodreads - which helped inspire me to write this article. I only realised a day later that it was the anniversary of his tragic death - when I saw that a lot of my friends had also been looking him up and replaying his music. I don't think it was just a co-incidence that I made that connection, I do think that his spirit is still very much with us in our attempts to find better ways of being at peace with ourselves, and living more in harmony with the planet.

As I co-administrate a facebook open group called "Back to The Garden" some of his quotes were particularly relevant - such as "I'm not really a career person; I'm a gardener, basically." Also, "The thing the sixties did was to show us the possibilities and the responsibility that we all had. It wasn't the answer. It just gave us a glimpse of the possibility." Our group is already named "Back to The Garden" because of the 60's song "Woodstock" which says "We are stardust, we are golden, and we've got to get ourselves back to the garden". Our aim is to share information to help us try to live sustainable lives by creating supportive local communities, and to participate in global meditation link-ups to help influence the collective consciousness towards achieving this. We also share our creativity to help express our ideas.

My article shows why I think John is such a great example to us all - of how to truly be ourselves.

John Lennon was such a thoroughly REAL person. His quotes reflect all sides of human nature, from the sad and withdrawn, to the desperately painful, to the angry, to the loving and celebratory, and from the arrogant to the humble, as well as from the serious to the exuberant humour-filled sheer absolutes of expression. We all have many sides to our nature but we tend to try to pretend that we don't, mostly because we are afraid to show some of it. Does society make us think that if we remain on a bland even-keel we are more agreeable to others? Surely we are more interesting if we share what we truly feel? It's perfectly possible to be honest without being horrid. Why can't we just accept all of it and be this real? Okay, we don't all need to be huge public characters, but we can be quietly firm about who and how we choose to be.

Another quote of John's which is staggeringly beautiful in its stark honesty is "When you're drowning you don't think I would be incredibly pleased if someone would notice I'm drowning and come and rescue me. You just scream."

If you are facing a period of 'depression', why not allow that to simply be for a while? I generally have 3 days of it every now and again. I learnt from a very early age to manage it. You could say it was artistic temperament, but it isn't just that - we all have natural cycles energetically and physically, which affect us emotionally, and I believe we are better off listening to these than trying to deny them. (Of course, you should look after yourself with good nutrition, exercise, and the right amount of sleep, because imbalance in these areas can exacerbate or oven trigger such periods.) I basically I give myself permission to let it happen and actually explore it - I write or paint myself through it. I don't do anything I don't want to - I just live with it. Okay, so I don't usually publish what I've written at such times - but I do learn from it - and I am well aware that I am processing emotion, dealing with it - not trying to suppress it. I know that after the 3 days it will go again because I have given it the space to play through. Often I make positive changes in my life after these stages - so they are like transition phases. I seem to gather strength and insight from actually allowing them to really work through, and somehow grow from the experience. Perhaps by allowing the darker side its space, I then get recompense by gaining access to more of the light, because sometimes it is straight after one of these periods that I produce my best work. Maybe if we looked at it as if we are like snakes shedding skins so that we have room to grow some more, we could learn to process these phases naturally, we could all deal with them. Maybe they wouldn't hang around then - we could trust ourselves to get through them - not let them overwhelm us, or leave us stuck half in half out - we could go into them fully and come out the other side. I think it is healthy to allow ones-self to honestly explore all sides of your nature, as that is probably the only way you can truly get to know and trust yourself. I think that is why I love John Lennon so much - he trusted himself to be real - and he told the truth.

Of course, John Lennon isn't the only one who has dared to be so real, there are many other people who have been a great example to us in this way, and most of these have left great quotations we can continue to draw on for inspiration. I list loads of them on my Goodreads (Jay Woodman) page, and also share some on my Radiance-Solutions website.

Art of any form - music, writing, painting, are the most obvious ones, but there are many more, (and we don't have to be 'artistic' to express ourselves, you could just write letters you may never post, or notes to yourself) - any of this helps us to truly face the world and explore it and the human psyche. We may begin with ambivalence, but we soon become fearless if we explore thoroughly enough. We become powerful in ourselves because we are learning to understand ourselves. We can't ever really hope to understand everything around us, but we can learn to understand ourselves in relation to anything else. If we know what we stand for and how we feel about things - then that never changes no matter what else changes around you - you become like a rock, yet at the same time feel floatingly free. (Of course if you do learn from new information and experiences or learn to respond differently to situations, your outlook does evolve, but you are still the floating rock that is you growing as part of the conscious universe.)

You know we need variety in life to make it interesting. There has to be variety to even enable us to exist as individuals. So you stop blocking it off - you accept your curiosity and begin to explore, and the more you do this, the more you tend to then celebrate and appreciate the variety. You also accept your vulnerability, yet at the same time feel incredibly strong because you have opened fully to life. Life feels magical - even in its madness and confusion - it is staggeringly intoxicating.

So let's grasp the bull by the horns and dare to be real - you'll be amazed how great it will feel.... Not to be sucked in any more, not be afraid any more. You will feel powerful, filled with energy, draw yourselves up, and take control of who you want to be.

Neale Donald Walsch said "You are all in the process of defining yourselves. Every act is an act of self definition. "

Ralph Waldo Emerson said "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment."

And Shakespeare said "To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man."

John Lennon also said "There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life."

But wait a minute, just as with Lennon (and many others) - those in power don't want us to be real do they? They want us to go on consuming their goods (with poisons in them), and watching TV (with all the pap they'd like us to believe). They want us to feel powerless so that they can continue to lead us blindly into wars and other money making schemes, and so that we accept their laws and judgements, instead of questioning them or standing up for ourselves and our rights. If we are real then we become a threat to them, and they feel a need to deal with us - exactly, you got it - but now there are too many of us, and things are going to have to change. If we stop listening to them, if we stop using their systems, and simply walk away - that is all that is needed.

Then we will look after each other at community level - ensure we are can access healthy food, work together at projects that sustain us - not them - keep things local - it makes much more sense. Trade our skills, make things that last, that don't waste raw materials and fuel, things that are truly useful - not junk to make profit out of others. We can take back everything they have been trying to take away from us completely, bit by bit, over centuries, sneakily.

Marianne Williamson said "Do you really not know what to do? Or do you just lack the courage to do it?"

And Ghandi said "Be the change you wish to see in the world."

And Van Morrison said "You can't stop us on the road to freedom, you can't keep us 'cause our eyes can see."

And John Lennon said "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope some day you'll join us, and the world will live as one."

Another thing Lennon taught us was never to be sucked into trying to fight those trying to exert power over us at their own game. He said "If you want peace, you won't get it with violence." And "There's no separation. We're all one. Give peace a chance, not Shoot people for peace. All you need is love. I believe it. It's damn hard, but I absolutely believe it."

So don't allow yourself to be diverted - firstly it infects you with their level of thinking, secondly it takes your power away. Save your power for doing the good stuff, dismiss the rest as insignificant. As long as you remain complete in who you want to be, you will keep your absolute power. The minute you slip into something else - you lose some of it to them. Don't give it away, keep you power quietly to yourself, and you will always be free, they cannot defeat you. No matter what they do, your power remains yours - they do not get a jot of it. Look at how we remember the great people like John Lennon - that's because they never lost anything at all. He has become untouchable, and yet we can all touch him and his dreams, and help make them as real as he believed they could be. He said "A dream you dream alone is only a dream, a dream you dream together is reality." And "Peace is not something you wish for; It's something you make, Something you do, Something you are....."

Cognitive Dissonance[1] [1] might arise when you begin to realise there are things wrong in the world but can't see the whole picture so your bits don't fit or make sense, or you might be disappointed by the difference between your expectations and what has happened, or of people. As Lennon said "The more real you get the more unreal the world gets."

So you need to re-adjust. Surely allowing ourselves the time to do this rather than try to fight it is actually healthy? Look closely at how you are feeling and thinking. Express how you feel through safe means - artistically, or by speaking to a friend, therapist, or to an inanimate object or imaginary person, or by writing letters or notes. Even ask rhetorical questions, or ask for what you want to happen - it helps you clarify things and you might even find answers. Recognise your autonomy - you can seek clarification in your understanding, or you can actually just choose to change the way you want to feel or do things.

Medication obviously is useful in that it can give you the break to rest and steady yourself, before beginning to explore what is happening. If you view it as a tool to get back up a few steps, not as an excuse to just lie down at the bottom - then it is a positive and empowering act rather than something you are succumbing to. You should ideally always have a plan with your doctor to ensure that you are helped to withdraw carefully and gradually as you take back your power. You do sometimes need to be firm with your doctor about this, take responsibility for your own best interests, but never try to do it completely on your own.

Khalil Gibran wrote that "Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding."

Plug into the umbilical cord of power through meditation and recharge yourself. Connect with the beautiful energy of the planet too. You are a rock between the earth and the reeling stars. Stand there feeling it deeply. Reach out your arms, dance if you want to, swim in the moonlight, sing or shout. Feel the processes in yourself re-adjusting, and renewing - and you will emerge with magic keys - re-enter life in the next stage of growing.

Remember your connection with the harmonics of the universe. You are one aspect of the one life force, manifested as human consciousness - everything else is a distraction. Focus on your relationship with the life force and yourself - who you are being - how you want to be. Other worries often pale into insignificance when you look at the bigger picture. You begin to realise that none of that small stuff can stop you from choosing exactly who you want to be. When you appreciate the astonishing variety of life around you, you tend to just find it easier to allow other things and people to just be as they are> Reasoning doesn't matter so much anymore, even forgiving doesn't matter much anymore - because you see that there is no need, you just let go of the small stuff and walk on deep into the wonder of being fully alive.

As John Lennon said: "Limitless undying love - which shines around me like a million suns - it calls me on and on across the universe."

A Narcissist Cannot Apologize or Take Accountability

An individual with narcissistic personality disorder has a hair line trigger to any criticism real or imagined, and cannot be 'wrong'. This creates a highly abusive situation for a person in a narcissistic relationship, because the narcissistic personality will perform outrageous abusive crimes and will take no responsibility for his or her actions.

According to the narcissist, he or she is above reproach and it is always someone else's fault. The narcissist will use all sorts of malicious weapons to avoid taking responsibility and apologising, including adamantly and righteously denying any wrong doing, using lies as weapons to distract, citing that he or she did apologise when no credible apology was forthcoming, projecting by reaching into past unrelated incidents to use any slight he or she can muster against the other person, or by creating abandonment or threats to abusively make the other person back down or take on the fault instead.

When trying to get a narcissist to be accountable for painful, abusive and pathological acts, hooking into being abused is certain, and accountability from the narcissistic personality impossible. If trying to make a narcissist take responsibility and say 'sorry', the harder you try the harder the narcissist will hit back. Non-narcissistic individuals who possess a conscience are no match for the conscienceless narcissist. Be very aware that if he or she is cornered, the narcissist is more likely to devalue and discard you, exit the relationship, and abandon 'loving you' rather than be accountable and risk injuring his or her false self.

Be very aware that if and when the narcissist does take responsibility and apologise it will be for one of two reasons. The first is because a severe enough narcissistic injury has occurred that the narcissistic personality will hit rock bottom and the false self (which needs energy to hold up) disappears and the 'real' person emerges.

Don't be fooled into thinking that is time will remain, because as soon as the narcissist resumes enough relief (energy) to reinstate the false self, up it will come again. This is when a person with narcissistic personality disorder will discredit the therapist and his or her spouse or partner will be shattered, realising the sincerity was short-lived, and the nasty non-accountable person has returned.

The second reason a narcissistic personality will 'act' accountable is when no other option is left to secure or retain narcissistic supply. This generally happens when the person who has been the source of narcissistic supply gains enough strength to leave and stay away, and cannot be hooked back into thenarcissisticrelationship any other way. Once the individual is hooked again, thenarcissistic personality will return, but usually in an even more punishing form, to 'pay back' theindividual for having enough strength to leave in the first place.

Lecciones Importantes Para Todo Musulmán


Lección 1: Memorizar la Surah Al-Fatihah y las Surahs cortas (desde Surah Al-Zalzalah hasta la Surah Al-Nas) con una recitación buena y acertada, y un entendimiento profundo de sus significados, tanto como sea posible.

Lección 2: Entender el significado de la Declaración de Fe: "Ash-hadu An La Ilaha Illa Allah, Wa Ash-hadu Anna Muhammadan Rasul Allah" y conocer las condiciones de la declaración: "La Ilaha Illa Allah." El significado de la Declaración de Fe es: Doy testimonio que no hay Dios digno de adoración sino Allah, y doy testimonio de que Muhammad es SU Mensajero. La frase "La Ilaha" niega la existencia de todas las deidades, mientras que la frase "Illa Allah" confirma el derecho de Allah de Señorío y Divinidad, QUIEN Unicamente merece ser adorado.

Las condiciones de "La Ilaha Illah Allah" son las siguientes:
Conocimiento que niega la ignorancia,  certeza que niega la duda,  sinceridad de adoración que niega el politeísmo,   veracidad que niega la mentira,  amor que niega el odio,  completa sumisión que niega la rebeldía,  aceptación que niega el rechazo,  y el rechazo de todos aquellos que son injustamente adorados junto con Allah (Glorificado y Exaltado sea).
Todas ellas son mencionadas en las siguientes líneas:
Conocimiento, certeza, sinceridad, amor, aceptación, sumisión a ello Rechazo de todos aquellos adorados junto a Allah, el Poderoso, Glorificado y Exaltado sea

Lección 3: Hay seis pilares de la fe:
  Creer en Allah,  Sus Angeles,  Sus Libros Revelados,  Sus Mensajeros,  El Ultimo Día,  y el Destino Divino, bueno y malo.

Lección 4: El Tauhid (monoteismo o unicidad) tiene tres categorías:
 Tauhid Al-Rububíah (Unicidad del Señorío de Allah),
 Tauhid Al-Uluhíah (Unicidad de la Adoración a Allah) y
 Tauhid Al-Asma’ Wa Al-Sifat (Unicidad y singularidad de los Nombres y Atributos de Allah).

El Shirk (politeísmo) tiene también tres categorías:
 Shirk Akbar (politeísmo mayor),
 Shirk Asghar (politeísmo menor) y
 Shirk Khafiy (politeísmo oculto).

El politeísmo mayor hace vanos y sin recompensa los hechos de aquellos que lo cometen. Este también causa la permanencia por toda la eternidad en el Infierno a aquellos que lo cometen, como Allah (Exaltado sea) dice, {Si hubieran asociado, todo lo que hicieron habría sido en vano.} [Surah al- An'am (6):88] Allah también dice: {No procede que los asociadores permanezcan en las mezquitas de Allah dando testimonio de incredulidad contra sí mismos. Sus acciones serán vanas y ellos serán inmortales en el Fuego.} [Surah at-Taubah (9):17]  De ahí, que Allah (Exaltado sea) no perdonará a aquellos que cometen este tipo de politeísmo y mueren sin arrepentirse. Además, ellos no serán admitidos en el Paraíso; como Allah (Exaltado sea) dice, {Es cierto que Allah no perdona que se Le asocie con nada, pero, fuera de eso, perdona a quien quiere.} [Surah an-Nisa' (4):48] ÉL(Glorificado sea) dice también, {Quien asocie algo con Allah, Allah le vedará el Jardín y su refugio será el Fuego. No hay quien auxilie a los injustos.} [Surah al-Ma'idah (5):72].
Este tipo de politeísmo incluye, entre otras cosas, buscar ayuda de los muertos y los ídolos, suplicándoles, haciendo promesas en su nombre, y ofreciéndoles sacrificios.
El politeísmo menor incluye algunos actos de politeísmo que son mencionados en el siempre Glorioso Qur'an y la Sunnah Purificada, tales como la disimulación (hipocresía), a través de aparentar ciertos actos religiosos de adoración, jurar por otro que Allah, y que uno diga “Si Allah y tal y cual quieren.” El Profeta (la paz sea con él) dice, La cosa más terrible que temo para mi Ummah es el Shirk menor.  Cuando le fue preguntado sobre el Shirk menor, él (la paz sea con él) dijo: Aparentar.[1] (Relatado por Imam Ahmad, Al-Tabarani y Al-Bayhaqi bajo la autoridad de Mahmud ibn Labid Al-Ansari - que Allah esté complacido con él - con una cadena de narradores buena. Asimismo, fue relatado por Al-Tabarani con una cadena buena de narradores bajo la autoridad de Mahmud ibn Labid, bajo la autoridad de Rafi` ibn Khadij) De igual modo, el Profeta (la paz sea con él) dijo, "Aquel que jura por otra cosa que Allah, está cometiendo un acto de politeísmo''.[2] (Relatado por Imam Ahmad con una cadena sólida de narradores, bajo la autoridad de `Umar ibn Al-Khattab - que Allah esté complacido con él) También, Abu Daud y Al-Tirmidhi relataron con una cadena sólida de narradores, bajo la autoridad de Ibn `Umar (que Allah esté complacido con él) que el Profeta (la paz sea con él) dijo, "El que jura por cualquier otro que Allah es un incrédulo o un politeísta". [3]
Además, él (la paz sea con él) dijo, No digáis, "Lo que Allah quiera y tal y tal quiera", sino decid: "Lo que Allah quiera y después tal y tal quiera. [4] (Relatado por Abu Daud con una cadena sólida de narradores bajo la autoridad de Hudhaifah ibn Al-Yaman, que Allah esté complacido con él).
Este tipo de politeísmo no saca a una persona fuera de los límites del Islam, ni causa a quien lo comete que permanezca para siempre en el Infierno. Sino que, más bien, esto va contra los principios ideales del Tauhid.
La evidencia para la tercera categoría de politeísmo, llamado politeísmo oculto, viene del Profeta (la paz sea con él) quien dijo, ¿Os informo de que más temo para vosotros, más que Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal (Anticristo)? La gente dijo: Sí, oh Mensajero de Allah. Él (la paz sea con él) dijo: Es el Shirk oculto. Una persona permanece en pie en la oración e intenta perfeccionarla cuando se da cuenta que otros le están mirando. [5](Relatado por Ahmad en su Musnad bajo la autoridad de Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri, que Allah esté complacido con él).
El Politeísmo, a su vez, puede también ser dividido en dos categorías solamente:
Primera: Politeísmo Mayor. Segunda: Politeísmo Menor. El politeísmo oculto puede ocurrir en ambos. Puede ser encontrado en el politeísmo mayor, como el tipo de politeísmo cometido por los hipócritas, quienes mostraban creencia mientras se entretenían en falsas creencias por temor a ser matados.
También puede ocurrir en el caso del politeísmo menor, en la forma de aparentar, como se ha evidenciado mencionando anteriormente el Hadiz reportado bajo la autoridad de Mahmud ibn Labid Al-Ansari y Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri. Allah es el Dador del éxito.


Lección 5: Hay cinco pilares del Islam:
1. Testificar que nadie tiene derecho a ser adorado excepto Allah y que Muhammad es SU Mensajero,
2. hacer las cinco oraciones obligatorias diligentemente y perfectamente,
3. pagar el Zakah (limosna obligatoria),
4. realizar el ayuno durante el Ramadán,
5. y realizar el Hajj (peregrinación a Makkah) para aquellos que pueden ser capaces físicamente y financieramente.

Lección 6: Hay nueve condiciones para la oración:
Islam, cordura, discernimiento, limpieza mayor y menor, eliminación de la impureza, cubrir el `Aurah (partes del cuerpo que deben ser cubiertas), comienzo del tiempo actual de la oración, orientación hacia la Qiblah (la dirección hacia la cual los musulmanes vuelven sus rostros en la oración) y la intención.

Lección 7: Hay catorce pilares de la oración:
1. Permanecer de pie para la persona que es capaz de hacerlo.
2. el primer Takbir (decir Allahu Akbar, es decir, Allah es el Más Grande), lo cual señaliza el comienzo de las oraciones,
3. la recitación de la Surah Al-Fatihah,
4. la acción de inclinarse,
5. permanecer erecto después de la inclinación,
6. prostrarse sobre las siete partes (N.T.C. : del cuerpo),
7. levantarse de esta (prostración),
8. sentarse entre las dos prostraciones,
9. concentración profunda,
10. sosiego y tranquilidad durante todas las acciones de la oración,
11. la recitación del Tashahhud final,
12. sentarse mientras se recita el Tashahhud final,
13. invocar las bendiciones de Allah sobre el Profeta (la paz sea con él), y
14. la pronunciación de los dos Taslims (salutaciones).

Lección 8: Hay ocho obligaciones en la oración:
  Todos los otros Takbirat, aparte del Takbir, que señala el comienzo de la oración,  decir, “Sami`a Allahu Liman Hamidah (Allah escucha a quien Le alaba)” para ambos, el Imam y la persona que reza individualmente,  decir, "Rabbana Wa Laka Al-Hamd (Señor nuestro, a tí las alabanzas)" para el Imam, aquellos que le están siguiendo (N.T.C. en la oración), y la persona que reza individualmente;  decir, "Subhana Rabbiia Al-`Azhim (Gloria a mi Señor, el Todopoderoso)," mientras se inclina;  decir, "Subhana Rabbiia Al-A`la (Glorifiicado sea mi Señor, el Exaltado)" mientras se postra;  decir, "Rabbi Ighfir Li (Perdóname, mi Señor)" entre las dos prostaciones;  la recitación del primer Tashahhud; y  sentarse mientras se recita el primer Tashahhud.

Lección 9: El Tashahhud es como sigue:
Salutaciones, bendiciones, y toda bondad son debidas a Allah. La paz y la Misericordia y las Bendiciones de Allah sean sobre tí, oh, Profeta. Que la paz sea sobre nosotros y sobre los siervos justos de Allah. Doy testimonio de que no hay dios digno de adoración salvo Allah, y doy testimonio de que Muhammad es SU Mensajero.
El segundo  Tashahhud (del final) lee: Oh, Allah, manda Tu Favor (Gracia y Honor) sobre Muhammad y sobre la familia de Muhammad así como has enviado Tu Favor (Gracia y Honor) sobre Ibrahim y sobre la familia de Ibrahim. TU eres el Más Alabado, el Más Glorioso. Oh Allah, otorga TUS Bendiciones sobre Muhammad y sobre la familia de Muhammad así como Has bendecido a Ibrahim y a la familia de Ibrahim. TU eres el Más Alabado, el Más Glorioso.
En el Tashahhud final, uno debe buscar  Refugio en Allah del castigo del Fuego, el castigo en la tumba, las tribulaciones de la vida y la muerte, y la tribulación del Anticristo. Luego, debe recitarse algunas súplicas que se desee, pero preferiblemente aquellas que el Profeta (la paz sea con él) nos ha enseñado. La siguiente súplica nos trae un ejemplo:
Oh Allah, ayúdame a recordarTE, a darTE gracias, y a adorarTE en la mejor manera. Oh Allah, he sido injusto conmigo mismo enormemente y nadie perdona los pecados sino TU. Luego, concédeme tu perdón, ten misericordia de mí. Ciertamente, TU eres el Más Indulgente, el Más Misericordioso.
Tras recitar el primer Tasha-hhud, uno debe levantarse para completar la oración si esta no es la oración del Fajr (matinal). Acorde a muchos Hadiz, es preferible enviar las oraciones sobre el Profeta ( la paz sea con él) antes de levantarse para completar la oración.

Lección 10: La Sunan (actos muy recomendados) de las oraciones incluyen lo siguiente:
(1) La súplica del Istiftah (el comienzo de la oración).
(2) Colocar la palma de la mano derecha sobre la mano izquierda y estas a su vez sobre el pecho en la posición de pie.
(3) Elevar las manos con los dedos unidos paralelamente a los hombros o los oidos en el primer Takbir, cuando va a inclinarse, elevarse de la inclinación, y cuando va a levantarse para comenzar la tercera Rak`ah (unidad de oración) después del primer Tashahhud.
(4) Pronunciar el Tasbih (Subhana Allah, es decir, gloria a Allah) más de una vez, mientras se inclina y se postra.
(5) Decir Rabbi Ighfir Li “Perdóname, mi Señor” más de una vez mientras se está sentado entre las dos postraciones.
(6) Enderezar la cabeza y al mismo nivel que la espalda mientras se está inclinado.
(7) Separar la parte superior de los brazos del lado y del estómago, de los muslos mientras se postra.
(8) Levantar ligeramente los brazos y codos del suelo mientras se permanece postrado.
(9) Descansar sobre la pierna izquierda mientras se levanta el pie derecho erecto con los dedos doblados hacia adelante mientras se recita el primer Tashahhud y entre las dos postraciones.
(10) Descansar sobre las piernas durante el Tashahhud final.
(11) Levantar el pie derecho erecto con los dedos doblados hacia delante [durante el Tashahhud final].
(12) Invocar la paz y Bendiciones de Allah sobre el Profeta (la paz sea con él) y su familia, así como sobre el Profeta Ibrahim y su familia en el primer Tashahhud.
(13) Súplicas en el Tashahhud final.
(14) Recitar el Qur’an en voz alta en las oraciones del Fajr así como en las dos primeras Rak`ahs de las oraciones del Maghrib (anochecer) y el `Isha’ (noche).
(15)  Recitar el Qur’an silenciosamente en las oraciones del Zhuhr (mediodía) y el `Asr (tarde) en la tercera Rak`ah de la oración del Maghrib, y en las dos últimas Rak`ahs de la oración del `Isha’.
(16) Recitar cualquier otra Surah del Qur’an junto con la Surah Al-Fatihah, mientras que observa el resto de las otras oraciones Sunan de las que hemos mencionado brevemente aquí. De entre las otras oraciones Sunan están: decir, "Rabbana Wa Laka Al-Hamd (Señor Nuestro, a TI la alabanza)" para el Imam, aquellos que le siguen, y la persona que reza individualmente; y situar las manos con los dedos extendidos sobre las rodillas mientras se inclina.

Lección 11: Hay ocho cosas que invalidan la oración:
(1) Hablar intencionadamente mientras conoce que esta acción invalida la oración. Hablar por ignorancia u olvido, en cambio, no invalida la oración.
(2) Reírse.
(3) Comer.
(4) Beber.
(5) Exponer las partes privadas.
(6) Desvío extremo de la dirección del Qiblah.
(7) Continuos y excesivos movimientos durante las oraciones.
(8) La ruptura de la ablución (Wudu’).

Lección 12: Hay diez condiciones para la ablución:
Islam, cordura , discernimiento, intención, acompañamiento del reglamento de la intención; esto quiere decir que uno no intenta interrumpir la ablución hasta que esta se haya completado, el cese completo de aquello que requiere realizar la ablución (como la orina y heces), lavarse las partes privadas con agua o una sustancia seca (es decir tierra, piedras, papel higiénico, etcétera), pureza y permisibilidad del agua con el cual se tiene la intención de realizar la ablución, quitar cualquier cosa que pueda impedir que el agua alcance la piel, y el comienzo del tiempo de la oración actual para aquellos cuyo estado de romper la ablución es continuo contra su voluntad.

Lección 13: Hay seis obligaciones al realizar la ablución:
1) Lavar la cara incluyendo la boca y las fosas nasales,
2) lavar las manos hasta los codos,
3) pasar las manos humedecidas sobre la cabeza incluyendo las orejas,
4) lavar los pies hasta los tobillos,
5) observar el correcto orden en la ablución, y
6) observar constancia y continuidad entre los actos de la ablución. Es deseable lavar la cara incluyendo la boca y las fosas nasales, manos y pies tres veces.
Sin embargo, el acto obligatorio es lavarlos una vez. En cuanto a la cabeza, no es deseable repetir la acción de pasar las manos humedecidas sobre ella, como muchos Ahadiz (hadices) auténticos afirman.


Lección 14: Hay seis actos que invalidan la ablución:
1) Secretar (expulsar) cualquier cosa de los dos oificios naturales,
2) Secretar algo que se estima como sucio e impuro del cuerpo,
3) entrar en un estado de inconsciencia como resultado de dormir o cualquier otra cosa,
4) tocar las partes privadas (el órgano sexual o el recto) sin una ‘separación’ [tal como unos guantes],
5) comer la carne de camello, y
6) la apostasía del Islam (que Allah salve a los Musulmanes de caer en ella).
Nota Importante: El acto de lavar todo el cuerpo del difunto no invalida la ablución. Esta es la opinión de la mayoría de los sabios musulmanes, ya que no hay evdencia textual del Qur’an o de la Sunnah que pruebe esto. Si la persona que emprende el lavado toca accidentalmente las partes privadas del difunto sin tener una cubierta (sobre sus manos), entonces él o ella debería realizar la ablución.
La persona que lleva a cabo el lavado no debe tocar las partes privadas del difunto sin una cubierta.
Más aún, el acto de tocar a una mujer no invalida la ablución, ya sea si esto es hecho con o sin deseo sexual, tanto como esto no resulte en una emisión (eyaculación). Esta es la opinión preponderante de los sabios. La evidencia traída en este aspecto es la de que el Profeta (la paz sea con él) besaba a algunas de sus esposas, luego hacía la oración sin realizar nuevamente la ablución.
En cuanto al dicho de Allah en la Surah Al-Nisa' y Al-Ma'idah, {...o habéis tenido relación con las mujeres} [An-Nisa (4):43] simplemente quiere decir relación sexual. Esta es la opinión más correcta de los sabios musulmanes, incluyendo la de Ibn `Abbas (que Allah esté complacido con él). Allah es Quien Concede el Éxito.

Lección 15: Hay muchos principios morales que debe observar todo Musulmán:
Estos incluyen los siguientes: la veracidad, la fidelidad, la castidad, la modestia, la valentía, la generosidad, el cumplimiento de las confianzas (obligaciones, pagos, etcétera), evitar todo lo que Allah ha prohibido, buena vecindad, y dar asistencia al necesitado dentro de la capacidad de uno mismo.

Lección 16: Cumplir los modales Islámicos, tales como:
Saludar a otros, tener un comportamiento alegre, comer y beber con la mano derecha, decir las súplicas que son dichas antes y después de comer o beber, decir Yarhamuka Allah[que Allah tenga misericordia de tí] al que dice Al-Hamdulillah [Gracias a Allah] después del estornudo, visitar al enfermo, asistir a la oración fúnebre, seguir el protocolo Islámico para entrar y salir de la casa o la mezquita, seguir el protocolo Islámico del viaje, mostrar bondad con los padres, parientes, vecinos, los mayores, y los niños, felicitar a la gente con el motivo del nacimiento del nuevo bebé, dar las condolencias al afligido, y decir las súplicas relacionadas con el uso de llevar puesto o quitarse la ropa o los zapatos.

Lección 17:
Cuidarse del politeísmo y los pecados, incluyendo "los siete pecados más graves". Que son: asociar a otros con Allah el Todopoderoso en la adoración, hechicería, matar a alguien sin una causa (definida según la ley Islámica), comerse la propiedad del huérfano, tratar con la usura y vivir de sus ingresos, rechazar unirse al ejército musulmán después de su avance con el líder musulmán, y difamar a las mujeres castas, virtuosas y creyentes.
También, la desobediencia a los padres, cortar los lazos de parentesco, dar falso testimonio, perjurio, dañar a los vecinos, y agraviar a la gente y ser injusto con ellos en asuntos de sangre, propiedad y honor están entre los pecados horribles que deben ser evitados.

Lección 18: Preparar al difunto para el entierro y ofrecer la oración funeral.
Preparar al difunto para el entierro:
(1) Si alguien muere, sus ojos le deberían ser cerrados y sus mandíbulas deben mantenerse unidas.
(2) El cuerpo de un difunto musulmán, que no sea asesinado en un campo de batalla, debería ser lavado. Los mártires no deben ser lavados y no debe ofrecerse para ellos la oración fúnebre. Sus cuerpos deben ser cubiertos con las ropas que ellos llevaban cuando murieron; ya que el Profeta (la paz sea con él) no aseó a los mártires de la Batalla de Uhud y no realizó la oración fúnebre por ellos.
(3) ¿Cómo debería lavarse al difunto? Para lavar el cuerpo del difunto, sus partes privadas deben ser cubiertas, y su estómago debe ser suavemente presionado. La persona que emprende el lavado del cuerpo del difunto debería amarrar un trozo de la tela limpio, o algo similar a ello, alrededor de su propia mano para limpiar las partes privadas del difunto. Él entonces le realiza una limpieza Wudu’ (ablución) [como el que es realizado antes del ofrecimiento de la oración]. Él entonces le lava su cabeza y barba con agua y nabk (yuyuba de loto) o algo similar. Luego él lava el resto del cuerpo, comenzando por el lado derecho y luego el izquierdo. Repite este procedimiento dos o tres veces, cada vez presionando suavemente el estómago del fallecido. Si ocurre que sale algo de los dos orificios, entonces él tiene que lavarlo quitándolo y luego obstruir el orificio afectado con un pedazo del algodón o algo similar a ello. Si este falla en su función, él puede usar entonces algo que pueda servir satisfactoriamente para su objetivo, como el uso de yeso adhesivo que es usado en el tratamiento médico moderno.
Él debería repetir la ablución. Si el cuerpo no está limpio con tres lavados mayores, él puede lavarlo entonces cinco o siete veces. Luego enjuga el cuerpo seco, pone perfume sobre sus axilas, en la parte superior entre las piernas así como en las partes del cuerpo que ponemos en el suelo en la posición de postración. Es mejor poner el perfume por todas las partes del cuerpo. Sus mortajas deberían ser perfumadas con incienso quemado. Su bigote y uñas deberían ser recortados si estos son demasiado largos, y su pelo no debe ser peinado o estilizado. Si el difunto es una mujer, su pelo tiene que ser peinado en tres trenzas y luego dejarlas colgar sueltamente detrás.
(4) Amortajar al muerto: es mejor envolver el cuerpo del difunto en tres cubiertas blancas sin incluir un Qamis (camisa larga) o un turbante si él es un hombre. No hay ningún daño en amortajarle en un Qamis, Izar (taparrabo) y una envoltura grande. Si el difunto es una mujer, su cuerpo tiene que ser envuelto en cinco mortajas: un Dir` (tela del pecho), Khimar (bufanda), Izar, y dos envolturas largas. Un chico joven debería ser envuelto en una, dos, o tres cubiertas, y el cuerpo de la chica joven tiene que ser envuelto en un Qamis y dos envolturas largas. Sin embargo, una cubierta es suficiente para cualquier persona, si esto cubre el cuerpo entero. Si el hombre difunto estaba en un estado de Ihram (estado ritual para el Hajj o la `Umrah), su cuerpo debería ser lavado con agua y nabk y él debería ser amortajado en su Izar (lo que cubre la parte inferior del cuerpo) y Rida' (lo que cubre la parte superior del cuerpo) o cualquier otra cubierta. Su cabeza y cara no deberían ser cubiertas y su cuerpo no debería ser perfumado; ya que él será levantado durante el Día de la Resurrección con Talbiyah (las expresiones piadosas cantadas en ciertos tiempos durante el Hajj y la `Umrah) en sus labios, según el Hadiz de nuestro gran Profeta (la paz sea sobre él). Si (el difunto fuera) una mujer, ella debería ser cubierta como cualquier otra mujer; pero, su cuerpo no debería ser perfumado, su cara no debería ser cubierta con el Niqab (velo de la cara) y sus manos no deberían ser cubiertas con guantes. Su cara y manos deberían estar cubiertas por la mortaja en sí misma, como clarificamos anteriormente.
(5) La persona que tiene más derecho a emprender el lavado del cuerpo del difunto es la designada en el testamento del difunto, luego el padre, el abuelo, y luego el familiar más cercano. La persona más autorizada a lavar el cuerpo de la mujer difunta es la persona femenina designada en el testamento para hacerlo, luego la madre, después la abuela, y luego el familiar más cercano entre los parientes femeninos. Un hombre puede lavar el cuerpo de su esposa y ella también puede lavar el cuerpo de su marido. Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq (que Allah esté complacido con él) fue lavado por su esposa, y 'Ali (que Allah esté complacido con él) lavó a su esposa Fatimah (que Allah esté complacido con ella).
(6) Realizar la oración fúnebre: a) Decir Allahu Akbar y recitar la Surah Al-Fatihah. Es bueno recitar junto con ella una Surah breve, o un verso o dos, como es evidenciado por el Hadiz narrado bajo la autoridad de Ibn `Abbas (que Allah esté complacido con él). B) Decir Allahu Akbar por segunda vez e invocar la paz y las bendiciones sobre el Profeta (la paz sea sobre él), recitar la misma forma del segundo Tashahhud. C) Decir Allahu Akbar por tercera vez y decir, “Oh, Allah, perdona a nuestros vivos y a nuestros muertos, a aquellos que están con nosotros y a los ausentes, a nuestros jóvenes y a nuestros ancianos, y a nuestros hombres y nuestras mujeres. Oh, Allah, a quienquiera que TU mantengas vivo de entre nosotros haz que esté sobre el Islam y quienquiera que TU tomes de entre nosotros, tómalo CONTIGO estando en la Fe. Oh, Allah, perdónale, ten misericordia de él, y haz honorable su recepción. Haz que su entrada sea amplia y purifícalo con agua, nieve e hielo. Límpiale de sus faltas como una prenda blanca es limpiada de manchas. Cambia su morada por una mejor, su familia por una familia mejor, y su esposa por una esposa mejor. Ensancha para él su tumba y derrama luz sobre él en ella. Oh Allah, no nos despojes de su recompensa y no dejes que nos desviemos después de él.” d) Decir Allahu Akbar por cuarta vez y luego hacer el Taslim sobre el lado derecho solamente.
Es deseable levantar las manos con cada Takbir. Si el difunto es una mujer, entonces debe modificar el final de ciertas palabras, tales como, "Oh Allah, perdónala, ten misericordia de ella, mantenla a salvo, indúltala ..." También, si los fallecidos son dos personas o más, deben hacerse unos pocos cambios en las palabras, "Oh Allah, perdónalos, ten misericordia de ellos, mantenlos a salvo, indúltalos ..."
Si el difunto es un bebé o un niño, deberíamos rezar por él de esta manera, “Oh, Allah, hazle/a un/a recompensa  precedente y un tesoro almacenado para sus padres y un/a intercesor/a respondido/a. Oh, Allah, por medio de él/ella, haz pesadas sus Balanzas y aumenta sus recompensas. Reúnelo/a con los creyentes piadosos, deposítale/a bajo el cuidado de (el Profeta) Ibrahim, y sálvalo/a por TU Misericordia del tormento del Fuego.”
La Sunnah, cuando se realiza la oración fúnebre, es que el Imam debería permanecer a la cabeza del difunto si este es un hombre, y a la mitad del difunto si este es una mujer. Si hay niños entre los muertos, el chico debe ser colocado antes que la mujer y la chica después de ella. La cabeza del chico debería ser emplazada próxima al hombre, y a la mitad del de la mujer debería ser emplazada próxima a la cabeza del hombre. Si hay una chica entre ellos, su cabeza debería situarse próxima a la cabeza de la mujer. Aquellos que ofrecen la oración fúnebre deberían permanecer detrás del Imam. Si hay una persona con el Imam, entonces el primero debería permanecer a la derecha del último.
Todas las alabanzas son debidas a Allah Único. La paz y las bendiciones sean sobre SU Mensajero, su familia y sus nobles Compañeros.
